AMCP commends CMS for dropping major changes to Medicare Part D's MTM program

For Immediate Release

Alexandria, VA, May 15, 2014 — The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) issued a statement today by CEO Edith A. Rosato, RPh, IOM, in response to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services's release of its 2015 medication therapy management (MTM) program guidance. Issued May 7, 2014, the guidance doesn't include the sweeping changes that CMS proposed earlier this year in the Medicare Part D program, such as an expansion of targeted enrollment requirements and reduction in targeted spending levels to $620 per year.

Edith Rosato's statement follows:

"CMS did the right thing here. Last March when CMS put its proposed Part D changes on hold, it wasn't clear what that meant for the MTM provisions. This is not only big news, it's good news – the guidance doesn't include the expansion in targeted enrollment requirements or the reduction in targeted spending levels for 2015.

"It's especially good for seniors – their premiums now won't go up because of a costly and unnecessary program expansion targeted at beneficiaries who may not need or want the interventions.

"AMCP members played a pivotal role in halting this costly expansion. Record numbers of members participated in letter-writing campaigns to Congress and participated in drafting comments. I thank our members for making their voices heard and CMS for listening."
