James Kenney

James Kenney, RPh, MBA is the former Manager, Specialty and Pharmacy Contracts at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a full service health insurance plan offering fully insured and self-insured HMO, PPO, and POS products located in Wellesley, MA, serving over 1,200,000 members in 4 states. He worked for Harvard Pilgrim for over 38 years and held several positions including Assistant Administrator for Pharmacy Programs and Pharmacy Operations Manager. His accomplishments include the creation and management of the network pharmacy program for the group practice model of Harvard Pilgrim, development of the pharmacy rebate program including negotiation of 20 value-based and outcomes-based contracts Mr. Kenney developed the specialty pharmacy program at HPHC for injectables and a second program in support of infertility management and has expertise in gene therapies, Car-T and all orphan disease areas.  He has lectured on many topics in managed care including formulary management, contracting, relationships, and pharmacy benefit programs. He is an editorial board member of American Health and Drug Benefits, and is a member of various pharmacy associations, including the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, the Massachusetts State Pharmacy Association (current member of the Legislative Committee).  He currently serves as a President-Elect of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy and is working as an independent industry consultant.
